Location

With its lush vegetation, idyllic lagoon, and white sandy beaches, Kamalaya, on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand, is a sanctuary of natural health and beauty. At the spa resort’s heart is a monk’s cave, once inhabited and used by Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat.

Transfer Time – 40 min from Koh Samui Airport.

Rooms

Kamalaya is integrated into its surrounding landscape, nestled amongst ancient, granite boulders, streams, and tropical vegetation. It has 24 hillside rooms, 10 Suites, and 27 Villas. Asian textiles combined with modern facilities provide comfortable and stylish furnishings. All rooms are fully air conditioned, with telephone and Wi-Fi (additional costs apply).

Food

Kamalaya’s healthy cuisine is inspired by a fusion of Eastern and Western traditions. Menus include vegetarian options, as well as seafood, poultry and lamb dishes. If you want to detox, fresh juices, signature tonics and herbal teas are available with specially prepared meals to meet your dietary requirements. The menu is integral to Kamalaya’s wellness philosophy with an emphasis on high quality, fresh ingredients and organic wherever possible. Our friends at Ghostwriter Deutschland recommend trying out the local cuisine. There’s a menu for every taste.

• Don’t pack toiletries – Kamalaya will supply quality organic body wash, shampoo, conditioner and even mosquito repellent in your room
• Unlike many expensive spa hotels, fresh mineral water is always available free of charge in your room, in the spa or offered when you are at the beach or by the pool

A haven of relaxation with fantastic facilities

Hemming a long, broad ribbon of powder white sands, Kata Thani sits in spacious grounds, where a picture-perfect pool is framed with tall swaying palms. The hotel offers great leisure and dining facilities, an idyllic setting on a stunning beach and it is close to Kata for those seeking great shopping and lively nightlife.

Tongsai Bay

From the moment we landed in Koh Samui, we knew that we were in for a treat. The airport at Samui is delightful & feels very exotic.

After we had collected our bags & passed through passport control, we met our driver for the short 10 minute taxi ride to the Tongsai Bay.

We arrived at the hotel around 6pm so it was dark & the weather balmy. The check-in was speedy & friendly. We were then transported by golf buggy to our cottage suite. We could easily have walked but the buggy was much more fun!

In my opinion the Tongsai Bay has got it right, it’s a wonderful relaxed, rustic 5* property offering exceptional service. Our room was wonderful, split over two levels with a large private terrace with two sun loungers and an outside bath. It was incredibly romantic to have a bath on your terrace whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly. The views during daylight were fabulous. The rooms are nestled amongst tropical gardens and coconut trees so the terraces are very private.

For me, a holiday revolves around the food. It was the dining that made the Tongsai Bay so special. The menus were superb & everything that we eat was fabulous. After dinner each evening we would walk down to the Po-Lad beach bar for a cocktail and listen to the waves. I would highly recommend venturing out for a few nights, there are a lot of very good restaurants nearby & of course are much cheaper than eating at the hotel.

Mark & I both did a Thai cookery course which was great. You get to visit the hotel gardens to pick ingredients first. Afterwards you all sit down to eat what you have made with the chef.

Koh Samui is easy to get around & the hotel will book a car for you.

If you are looking for a swanky 5* resort with marble everywhere & tv’s in every room then the Tongsai Bay is not for you however if you appreciate great service, lovely views & more natural surroundings then consider this wonderful hotel. We are planning to return & will try a pool villa next time.

Thailand

In the heart of Southeast Asia lies a monarchy that has become a revered touristic gem. The Kingdom of Thailand, or simply Thailand, is the jewel of Indochina and is rich in historical and cultural attractions as well as beautiful landscapes. On top of that, visitors can expect excellent food and warmth and hospitality from the genial locals. If you’re considering an extended stay, navigating the intricacies of the boi work permit might be part of your journey, allowing you to explore this enchanting land more deeply.

There are also numerous celebrations on the Thai calendar and if your visit happens to coincide with these national fetes, you will be treated to opulent displays of this country’s unique religious and cultural heritage. Given Thailand’s magnificent climate and collection of natural features, outdoor activities both in water and on land will appeal to most any tourist here.

Sightseeing and activities

Grand Palace Bangkok

Thailand’s brand of Theravada Buddhism has heavily influenced its culture and this is evident in the many gold-decorated temples or wats that dot the country. These structures are lavishly adorned with curved shapes and shiny materials and really light up the landscape.

The Wat Phra Kaew is the most treasured of these structures and is home to the amazing Emerald Buddha. Wat Pho and Wat Arun are other temples that are worth a visit. Before making for the lush countryside or the scenic beaches you will also want to see the cities of Siam, Ayutthaya and Sukhothai to immerse yourself in this country’s glorious past. The ruins in the city of Si Satchanalai, which is close to Sukhothai, are a treasure for history buffs and the city has thus been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Thailand forest

Traipsing about in Thailand’s tropical forests is an invigorating exercise and on visiting either the Khao Yai or the Khao Sok national parks you can get closer to the many wildlife species that this country is home to. While there you will also be treated to the soothing beauty of waterfalls and unique limestone formations.

Thailand’s coastline is replete with scenic beach resorts where thousands of visitors flock every year to escape the daily grind. Among its most visited beach resorts are Ko Lanta, which boasts stretches of fine golden sand, Phuket and Ko Samui. To avoid holiday crowds you could try visiting the more isolated Ko Kut though you may find it a little challenging to explore. This locale is also ideal for scuba diving if you are so inclined, though it is far from the only spot where you can dive. Ang Thong and the waters off the Similan Islands are also established diver favourites. One of the more recently discovered diving areas with unspoilt reef is the Ko Lipe Island.

Thailand PHANG

Other water sports doable here include snorkelling, surfing and sea canoeing. When you’ve had your fill of water activities you can go ashore for a round of golf on any of Thailand’s 200 plus courses, a number of which have been designed by household names such as Jack Nicklaus.

Events

While Thailand has many holidays and causes for throwing a party, the one most Thais look forward to is the Thai New Year or Songkran which is celebrated every second week of April. It is when the world’s largest water fight takes place and locals prowling the streets with water pistols is a common sight so beware.

I thought we'd just let you know what a wonderful time we all had aboard the Adventure of the Seas, and thank you for your part in the arrangements, we enjoyed every minute, no doubt probably our best cruise to date. Also I would say that disparaging remarks or criticism were totally unfounded, we gave all the staff, food, cabins, entertainment, weather and the ports of call, 10 out of 10, its a great ship, managed by a fine Master and very dedicated crew. We may have to give next year a miss to build up the bank balance, but we will come back to you for your expertise, as our Cruise Connoisseur.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our trip to Verona last weekend. This was a very emotive trip for my wife & I, as it was our first trip to Italy since my wife's cancer diagnosis 2 years ago. Italy is without a doubt our favourite place on the planet and we were not sure if she would see it again. Thanks to you, she has regained, what I call her Italian smile, it came across her face the minute we touched down. Money cannot pay for that smile! The hotel at Gatwick was literally a 2 minute bus ride from the airport, front row seats on the flight over and chauffeur driven limo to meet us at the airport was an amazing start to the weekend. When you said we were staying in a 3 star hotel, I was, if I'm honest, a little nervous, generally speaking, 3 star hotels in Italy means you are sleeping in a cow shed. Not at the Hotel Milano, what an amazing hotel, slap bang in the centre of Verona, with views of the arena, excellent breakfast, towels changed twice daily, good size bedrooms and very comfortable beds! The air con worked superbly, which was just as well with temperatures in the 30's every day. Thank you for making this trip memorable for both of us.

Seriously, thank you for all you hard work in arranging the cruise on board Serenade of the Seas for my in-laws and four other guests. Not only were your clients located in in three corners of the UK, but you had to deal with very late booking alterations, various medical requirements, special dietary requirements and not to mention 6 very experienced cruisers. All arrangements were completed by you with professional calm and flourish and, due to your personal intervention and attention to detail, everything was perfect from beginning to end. It is a great location, very comfortable & very attentive staff. Venice was a trifle hot but lovely all the same and now competing for our favourite Italian city. All went well with the ship, again thank you for picking it for us; a perfect choice. Staff were great, cabin very comfortable and what was so nice is that there was no forced seating. We could eat in a choice of restaurants and there was always a table for two if we wanted it. The food choices were outstanding. The itinerary was very interesting particularly Kotor in Montenegro. We easily got a train into Florence and were bold over by Barcelona. A big thank you from us both for organising this trip, and believe it or not, we both came back a few pounds lighter!

Not long back from our 3rd holiday of the year all booked by Jackie, Jackie is excellent at finding great hotels at fantastic prices. firstly we booked a holiday in Mexico at the Occidental Grand Excaret on the Riviera Maya. For the May bank holiday weekend we asked Jackie if she could find us something in the UK with a hot tub for a relaxing break, Jackie quickly replied with a few options and we ended up booking Conifer Lodges at Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway. The price through Jackie was cheaper than what we could of booked it ourselves. Lastly we have not been long back from Kardemeana in Kos, this one proved a bit more difficult to find as we'd been spoilt in Mexico, Jackie spent a lot of time finding us exactly what we asked for and yet again managed to find us a fantastic hotel at a brilliant price.
