Norway and Northern Lights Cruise for 12 Nights

Set Sail on an exciting and scenic quest with Oriana and search for the amazing Northern Lights.

Your first call is Andalsnes, where the Romsdal Alps meet Romsdalsfjord. Visit the dramatic Trollveggen (Troll Wall), the highest alpine drop in northern Europe at nearly 1,200 metres.

Then sail north above the Arctic Circle in search of the mystical natural phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights.

Tromso lies just under 250 miles inside the Arctic Circle. For great views of the city take the cable car to the top of Mount Storsteinen, or if your pursuit of the mystical Lights proves taxing, grab a cocktail – Tromso has more bars than anywhere else in Norway!

Alta is next, ‘The Town of the Northern Lights’. It’s home to the world’s first Northern Light observatory, and you’ll get a fantastic insight into this spectacular phenomenon. Don’t miss the Neolithic carvings and paintings at Hjemmeluft.
Your final port is Stavanger, the ‘Cradle of the Vikings’. This historic town boasts a charming old town and the imposing Three Swords monument. And, as the gateway to Norway’s fjordland, this is a fitting place from which to bid farewell to the spectacular fjords, before returning to Southampton.

Oriana is an Adult only mid-sized ship. Oriana elegantly combines classic design features such as teak decks and a tiered stern with delightful Art Deco touches. She exudes refinement and luxury. One of the signature features is the stunning atrium with a Tiffany glass ceiling and her panoramic Crow’s Nest bar.
The broad teak promenade and lido decks are great for sun bathing and watching the world go by. While away the hours in the card room and wood panelled library where you can relax. The bars which include the Lord’s Tavern sports bar and the iconic Anderson’s bar and places where you can go and enjoy a drink or cocktail. Holidays should be relaxing and Oriana is the perfect place to relax with the beautiful Oasis Spa and salon. However, if you prefer to be a little more active whilst on holiday, you’ll find a state of the art gym, sports courts and golf nets.
Evenings could feature dinner in Atul Kochhar’s Sindhu and a dazzling show in the theatre. From the moment you step on board, you’ll know you are on a very special ship and in the best possible company to explore new destinations.

Rhine River Cruise on Amadeus Royal

I was lucky enough to be a part of the Travel-pa conference last week on a Rhine River Cruise on Amadeus Royal.

This was my first time on a River Cruise other than the Nile. It was such a fabulous experience waking up to a different place every morning. As we were there in December we got to experience all the German Christmas markets in the little towns and cities, I was stunned by how beautiful these were. Full of traditional stalls selling Christmas decorations and gifts, no forgetting the Gluewhein too!! I have never seen such quaint Christmas Markets like this before. Just to see these alone was well worth the trip.

When we arrived on the ship we were taken to our cabins, I was sharing a B1 cabin on the Strauss Deck. What I loved most about the cabin was the Panoramic French Balcony Window so you could slide the window right across and lean out. Great for seeing the views and allowing daylight into the cabin.
The cabins are cleaned every day and a complimentary bottle of water is placed in the room daily.

Straight after unpacking we then caught the little train that stopped near the ship into Cologne, it was 8 Euros and you could hop off at all the stops along the way. We went to the various Christmas markets, the cathedral and the old town. It was a great way to see the city in one afternoon.
I would certainly recommend going into the lovely cathedral and lighting a candle.

We were back on the ship ready for cocktails at 6.30pm and then dinner at 7pm. There is only one sitting for dinner so that it easier to serve people from the small kitchen onboard. The food is very good and lots of it, at least 5 courses to choose from every night. If you have any dietary requirements then you need to advise the staff either prior to boarding or at the start of the cruise.

Our first night on board was full of wine and laughter and the Travel-pa network getting to know each other better. There were a few headaches the next day!

The next day Travel-pa had our annual conference in the morning where we learnt about all the exciting new things happening in 2016.

The good thing about a river cruise compared to an ocean liner is that they are small enough to dock very close to the city so you don’t have far to walk if you are not doing any of the excursions. You can choose from a number of excursions if you so wish, they range from around 16 Euros to 53 Euros depending on the itinerary. We found that it was just as easy to do our own thing and was very easy to walk into the places that we docked at.

For the rest of the cruise, we normally sailed during the night and then on awakening we were already in port.

We visited Speyer which is a lovely place and very quaint and lots of fabulous medieval buildings and the grand cathedral. Speyer was founded by the Romans and is one of Germany’s oldest cities.

The next day was the biggest surprise for me as we docked just outside the centre of Strasbourg in France. We caught the tram which was about 4 stops into the centre and WOW!! I loved Strasbourg with its central Christmas markets right in front of the cathedral and very medieval buildings. Such a surprise as I never expected it to be like that. I would definitely visit Strasbourg again, great to do for a weekend break.

In the afternoon we did a trip into Obernai in France, again it is a stunning little place with lots of character. We went for some food and wine into a very traditional pub in the centre. Have to say though that it was much colder here than anywhere we had been but it didn’t stop us from enjoying it.

The final stop was Ruedesheim but I didn’t get off the ship as had some work to do but everyone said it was stunning and very pretty. Some said it was the prettiest of them all, so I now wish I had gone to explore – oh well! Next time I will

The final night onboard and we had a Captains Cocktail party where all the staff were came to the lounge so we could thank them for all the efforts they had put in over the week. Then we had the Gala dinner which was fabulous!! 7 courses of amazing food. Plus the crowning glory was the Baked Alaska on parade where the lights are dimmed and the Alaska has sparklers on top and the staff carry it around the restaurant.

That night we sailed back to Cologne ready for drop off the next morning.

I had an amazing time and saw some wonderful German and French towns along the way. I would highly recommend anyone to go on an Amadeus River Cruise as it is just fabulous

P&O Ventura – Our Holiday

Just returned from a fantastic 2-week family cruise on P&O Ventura. We departed from Southampton at the end of July to cruise the Eastern Med. Crossing the Bay of Biscaye was good with plenty to do on our sea days. Our cruise visited Vigo, Alicante, Barcelona, Genoa, Rome, Cartagena and Gibralta.

Our favourite port was Cartagena which is within walking distance from the ship and is full of history and ‘tapas bars’. Excellent onboard food and I would recommend the specialist dining options Sindhu, Epicurian and Beach House. My daughter who is 17 enjoyed meeting new friends in the Teen Club, and we all enjoyed the onboard entertainment. Back home and already planning our cruise next summer with P&O.

Antarctic Cruise – Shackleton’s 100th Anniversary

Antarctic cruise – Ushuaia to Ushuaia, Argentina

Shackleton’s ship, the Endurance, embarked from the UK towards Antarctica when, in 1915, just 200 miles from the Antarctic mainland, she was stuck in the Weddell sea between two ice floes. The crew stayed with the ship hoping that the winds would change and allow the ship free, however, after 10 months, they were forced to leave the Endurance and head out across the ice to find help.

The story of how Shackleton led his men over ice and ocean to safety. This is one of the greatest survival tales ever. This voyage allows you to follow in the footsteps of the greatest explorers including Shackleton, Scott, Ross, Mawson, Hillary, Gerlache, Fiennes, Cook, Charcot, Byrd, Weddell, Amundsen and Stromness.

You will see the Drake Passage, South Georgia Island, the Falkland Islands. Antarctica. All these places are remote and have their character and stories to tell of great explorers and adventures. Along the way, you will marvel at glaciers and icebergs, penguins, seals and whales in these remote and rugged landscapes. Look out for Macaroni, Rockhopper, Magellanic, Gentoo and more.
See the remains of whaling operations and also historic sites associated with the early explorers.

CRUISES

Cruises are one of the best holidays I have ever had, I found them so relaxing especially with young children.  There are many things to do on board for the whole family and you will never get bored.

I like to board early to get all the check in and paper work done so that we can relax and be onboard in time for lunch. Although the ships carry lots of people, all the check-ins are done smoothly and quickly. You do not have to worry about carrying your luggage, from the time you check-in, you can relax. The next time you will see you luggage is in your room.

I highly recommend a balcony room as a minimum requirement as they are very airy and the fact that you can open the door whilst the ship is cruising is absolute bliss. You will never feel that the ship is too crowded either, there are lots of room for everyone.

There are many restaurants to choose from casual all day to dressing up in the evening and I can most highly recommend that you try their speciality restaurant on one or 2 nights.  The food is just fantastic and plenty and I can assure you that it is money well spent. You will never feel hungry onboard.

There is also plenty of entertainment for everyone, my children have never felt bored on the ships. They made lots of friends onboard and have loved every minute of it. They used to spend all day at the children and teen club and we only saw them at dinner time. Even during dinner, they are restless and cannot wait to go back to meet their friends at the teen club.

The trip goes so quickly that everyone is very sad at the end of the cruise. So go and try it, we never felt bored on a 2 weeks trip.

Northern Lights

Experience the Northern Lights magic this winter as we hug over 780 miles of rugged Norwegian coastline. Feel like an explorer as we invite you to discover authentic Norway. And we promise the best chance of spotting one of Mother’s best treats!

I thought we'd just let you know what a wonderful time we all had aboard the Adventure of the Seas, and thank you for your part in the arrangements, we enjoyed every minute, no doubt probably our best cruise to date. Also I would say that disparaging remarks or criticism were totally unfounded, we gave all the staff, food, cabins, entertainment, weather and the ports of call, 10 out of 10, its a great ship, managed by a fine Master and very dedicated crew. We may have to give next year a miss to build up the bank balance, but we will come back to you for your expertise, as our Cruise Connoisseur.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our trip to Verona last weekend. This was a very emotive trip for my wife & I, as it was our first trip to Italy since my wife's cancer diagnosis 2 years ago. Italy is without a doubt our favourite place on the planet and we were not sure if she would see it again. Thanks to you, she has regained, what I call her Italian smile, it came across her face the minute we touched down. Money cannot pay for that smile! The hotel at Gatwick was literally a 2 minute bus ride from the airport, front row seats on the flight over and chauffeur driven limo to meet us at the airport was an amazing start to the weekend. When you said we were staying in a 3 star hotel, I was, if I'm honest, a little nervous, generally speaking, 3 star hotels in Italy means you are sleeping in a cow shed. Not at the Hotel Milano, what an amazing hotel, slap bang in the centre of Verona, with views of the arena, excellent breakfast, towels changed twice daily, good size bedrooms and very comfortable beds! The air con worked superbly, which was just as well with temperatures in the 30's every day. Thank you for making this trip memorable for both of us.

Not only were your clients located in in three corners of the UK, but you had to deal with very late booking alterations, various medical requirements, special dietary requirements and not to mention 6 very experienced cruisers. All arrangements were completed by you with professional calm and flourish and, due to your personal intervention and attention to detail, everything was perfect from beginning to end. All went well with the ship, again thank you for picking it for us; a perfect choice. Staff were great, cabin very comfortable and what was so nice is that there was no forced seating. We could eat in a choice of restaurants and there was always a table for two if we wanted it. The food choices were outstanding. The itinerary was very interesting particularly Kotor in Montenegro. We easily got a train into Florence and were bold over by Barcelona. A big thank you from us both for organising this trip, and believe it or not, we both came back a few pounds lighter!

I had never used a Travel Consultant before. Daniel was recommended to me at a number of networking events & when I was thinking of planning a holiday I contacted him. From here I noticed a different level of service than I had experienced with other travel sales channels.2 things stick out; 1. Daniel jumped on my request immediately. I was impressed by how he communicated at every step of the way & acted with pace. This created trust very quickly. 2. Daniel always left a next move. This is a very skilful approach to sales. I was never boxed in, always had an alternative & had options.I recommend Daniel & will be using him for all my future travel needs.

Hello JillOnce again we would like to thank you very much for giving us such a terrific service. Our recent holiday to Spain with Great Rail Journeys was not quite as straight forward as we had hoped partly because there were days added and two couples - one British and the other Australian.Thank you Jill for filling in all the missing paperwork for taxis. You must have spent considerable time sorting out that problem. For the four of us, nothing could have been more simple. Lovely, executive cars arrived at each designated meeting place with superb drivers. It was pure pleasure to be picked up and delivered so efficiently. There were absolutely no hitches. Thanks must also go to GRJ for providing such excellent transportation. Mr and Mrs Atkinson have asked me to give you their sincere thanks to which we add our own.Thank you Jill Sincerely The Atkinsons and Boylands. June 2017

HiJenny,Thank–you for organising our trip to Dominican Republic everything was brilliant and went really well,as expected when you are organising things, the resort was brilliant much better than we had imagined and we were upgraded to fantastic rooms 7303 and 7304 they were the most recently refurbished and also used for the preferred club.I know its early but sometimes its best to try and sort things early so for next August we are thinking of Dreams St Thomas ? but do not think we can fly there direct from UK so were thinking of 3 nights New York, 12-14 nights at Dreams and then fly back direct if available or via Miami with 2 nights there.Or another thought is Aruba I know the Dreams there does not open till 2018 but I think there are similar chain there. Please could you look at these for August 2016.Thanks again for yet another great holiday this year, how do you manage to ALWAYS get our holidays so spot on ?

Not long back from our 3rd holiday of the year all booked by Jackie, Jackie is excellent at finding great hotels at fantastic prices. firstly we booked a holiday in Mexico at the Occidental Grand Excaret on the Riviera Maya. For the May bank holiday weekend we asked Jackie if she could find us something in the UK with a hot tub for a relaxing break, Jackie quickly replied with a few options and we ended up booking Conifer Lodges at Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway. The price through Jackie was cheaper than what we could of booked it ourselves. Lastly we have not been long back from Kardemeana in Kos, this one proved a bit more difficult to find as we'd been spoilt in Mexico, Jackie spent a lot of time finding us exactly what we asked for and yet again managed to find us a fantastic hotel at a brilliant price. I look forward to booking next years holiday's with Jackie as I know she'll exceed our expectations for what we want.

I have just come back from a fantastic week in Kos which Jackie booked at very short notice for my daughter and myself. I was a little nervous about travelling alone with my 7 year old for the first time as my husband was working and, to compound matters, I had an injured shoulder. Jackie arranged everything to make the holiday as easy for me as possible. The hotel was lovely and just what we wanted - we had a great break. Before contacting Jackie I had already wasted almost a full day trawling the internet and tying myself up in knots. Jackie did all the research, gave me loads of suggestions and had the whole holiday booked and organised in just a few hours. All I had to do was pack and turn up for the flight. Next time I'm not going to even think about searching online - I'll get straight in touch with Jackie and ask her to sort it out for me! Thanks Jackie! xx

Hi Olivia, Just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous holiday at El Paso Hotel, It was excellent, the food plentiful and there was a good selection. All geared up for families, with a lovely big pool. Being close to the theme park and water park was the icing on the cake, we even managed to spend one morning on the beach, this was in walking distance. Our private transfer was perfect, no worrying about the childrens seats as they were in our bus. Thank you so much for arranging everything for me and my family, you were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble, you certainly made the whole holiday experience for the eleven of us a complete joy. I will certainly be using you again.
