California Holidays
California offers the laid-back approach to life in America as opposed to the mayhem found on the east coast or the sleepy or industrial centre of this immense country. From the blissful Californian coast, through to the must-sees of Disneyland, Hollywood and Yosemite Park, and the major cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, California gives you the option of taking your break at any pace you so desire. Consider California holidays for unforgettable time of life.
The coast of California is split into four distinct regions. The North Coast is largely unspoilt, the rugged coastline home to some of the world’s largest trees and the place to go if you want to experience natural America.
The Bay Area is where you’ll find the cities of San Francisco, San Jose and Santa Cruz before journeying southwards along the undeveloped and mountainous Central Coast. Southern California is the place to go for beach lovers with its mile upon mile of golden sands, the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego as well as Disneyland.
The Disneyland resort (not to be confused with Disney World, which is located in Florida) opened in 1955 and has remained a favourite for visitors to California ever since.
The resort offers more traditional rides than its Floridian cousin, and can get very crowded at times, although if you visit in late winter or early spring it is not so packed. In 2001 it was joined by a sister park, the Disney California Adventure.
Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles that styles itself as the entertainment capital of the world. Tourism here tends to centre on the three boulevards: Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard and the lesser known Melrose Avenue. Sunset and Melrose are known for their clubs, shopping and nightlife, whilst Hollywood is where the area’s rich movie history is remembered. You can buy a movie star map in most outlets and go see if you can go pester some silver-screen legends.
Los Angeles itself is the most populated city in California. It is surrounded by mountains, forests, valleys and desert, and is famed for its beautiful beaches.
The city itself grew from several individual settlements, such as Santa Monica, Burbank, Pasadena, Long Beach and Anaheim, into the sprawling metropolis it is today. Each area has its own history and character.
San Francisco is famed for its liberal approach to life, its hilly terrain and scenic beauty. It really is a place of diversity and is one of the most visited cities in the world. Its most famous landmark is of course the Golden Gate Bridge, an expansive road bridge opened in 1937 that links San Francisco to Marin County to the north. You will also be familiar with the city’s network of old-fashioned street-cars.
Yosemite National Park is probably one of the most famous national parks in the world and one of the oldest in the states, having been established as long ago as 1890.
It covers over three quarters of a million acres and is visited by 3.7 million people each year. Yosemite is the finest place in the US for breathtaking natural beauty, with its spectacular views, icy waterfalls, Giant Sequoia groves and tree-lined valleys.
California is one of the most famous areas on the planet and deserves to be, and you can find out why for yourself by booking a holiday in the region today. Whether you centre your vacation in the metropolis of Los Angeles, the refined and relaxed area of San Francisco, or just somewhere a little off the beaten track, you will not be disappointed.
Our California Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.
