Botswana Holidays

The Republic of Botswana is a previously British owned country named Bechuanaland.  It became an independent 1966 and was officially renamed to Botswana. Botswana is located in Southern Africa and surrounded by four countries.  The bordering countries are South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The flat Botswana terrain mostly consists of Kalahari Desert. Consider Botswana holidays for unforgettable time of life.

The location close to the equator and the Kalahari Desert creates a dry and arid climate in the dry season and humid in the wet season.  Rain season is formally from November to April, but not limited to these months.  Rain season can start as soon as October and can last up to end of May.  Roads can become very wet and inaccessible, so plan your holiday accordingly and avoid literally being stuck in the mud.

Botswana Holidays – Culture of Botswana

Botswana Holidays

Various different ethnic groups make up the culture of Botswana. The dominant group is Setswana.  The culture is evident in many of the tourist attractions’ like the rock paintings of Tsodilo Hills.

The music of the Tswana is vibrant and vocal and performed with traditional instruments and sometimes guitar sounds are added.  String instruments are popular and the music is performed without drums.

Tswana tribes are known for their crafts and handiworks.  These people are skilled in weaving beautiful basket from palm leaves and dying it with their own locally crafted dyes.  Pottery is another skill, which has been perfected by these communities, and visitors will be delighted by the crafts on display in local markets and amazed by the way the locals implement their crafts in their daily lives.

Botswana Holidays – Tourist attractions and activities

Botswana Holidays

Botswana is most popular for the safari tours offered.  It is the best way to experience the land and the people.  During the day, you will be treated to see the famous African wildlife. Botswana is home to the “Big Five” wildlife animals and tourist guides will know where the best places are to view these animal.

At night the tourist can relax at a campfire and listen to the calls of the nocturnal animals and perhaps even be surprised by an inquisitive animal making sure that you are still enjoying the evening.

The Natural Reserve Parks of Botswana preserves this beauty of the land and animals and there are plenty parks to choose from.  The Chobe Nature reserve will entice you with the beauty of the Chobe River and you can go sailing on the mighty Okavango Delta. Botswana is also conveniently close to the Victoria Waterfalls in Zimbabwe and a day trip to view this magnificent Falls should be on every tourist planning.

For a more cultural experience, visit the historical museums and landmarks.  The capital of Botswana, Gaborone, contains many museums and historic buildings that give an insight into the history and development of Botswana.

Botswana Holidays – Accommodation and transport

Botswana Holidays

The best places to stay while on holiday in Botswana will depend on the type of vacation you are planning. If you are on a safari holiday, stay in one of the lodges in the various nature reserves.  The lodges, chalets and rondawels are built in true African tradition and will create the perfect African atmosphere for your retreat. If you plan to visit the cities, you will have an array of hotels and self-catering accommodation from which to choose. Botswana has reliable transportation services to and from the various destinations. Botswana has a commercial airline service traveling to all the major surrounding countries. There are also highways throughout the larger urban areas and a railway service throughout Botswana.

Conclusion

Botswana is a westernised country due to British influences, but the ethnic population and heritage is a strong force to reckon with.  Despite urbanisation of the country, there are still many areas where the natural beauty of the country is proudly preserved for tourists and future generation to remind them of the real reason that makes this country so spectacular.

Our Botswana Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.

Visit Vancouver

First, let’s get there !

Vancouver is a wonderful, vibrant city that has something for absolutely everyone. It offers beautiful beaches, world class shopping, a multicultural attitude and provides a gateway to the fantastic outdoor experiences of British Columbia.

Flying into Vancouver is, really, just the beginning of the adventure but what a great place to start.

Several options are available to get you to the Pacific coast; road, air and water methods are all available but the most common will be by aircraft.

Air Canada, BA and Virgin combine to offer up to 5 direct scheduled flights per day into Vancouver during the summer and Air Transat adds several more per week. Indirect flights are, sometimes, much more economical during peak seasons but you will, of course, need to make a plane change somewhere.

Loads to do

Vancouver, itself, is well worth the flight and you could easily spend a fortnight here in the summer. When the summer sun beats down, the sands of Kitsilano and Jericho Beaches are a welcoming sight and, if it rains, there are loads of indoor options, as well. Here are just a few of the things you could do:

– Vancouver Science World

– BC Museum of Anthropology

– Granville Island Market

– Vancouver Aquarium

Shopping and lunch

All in all though, Vancouver weather is very pleasant in the summer and even a rainy day can be fun. While a car is a nice option if you want to see the outskirts, the public transit system is efficient and affordable and will get you to just about anywhere.

The local communities are very diverse and well worth a visit; Chinatown is a must for authentic and Westernised food and, possibly, a few trinkets. Although these won’t be a novelty to visitors from the UK, there are some fantastic Indian shops and restaurants around 49th and Main and don’t forget that the exchange rate for the pound goes a long way toward stocking up on gifts.

To the South of Vancouver proper is Richmond and the fishing community of Steveston and, while the boats still bring in their catches, the area has become more of a tourist attraction and a great place for some lunch and a beer in the sun.

My fondest childhood memories of Vancouver revolve around Stanley Park and its huge trees and open spaces. A stroll along the seawall is a great place to spot seals, fish and a seemingly endless variety of bird life. You could, easily spend days exploring this great resource and, best of all, it’s free.

Beyond Vancouver

There are so many vastly different areas that are worth exploring that I could go on here for ages. I recommend a copy of The Lonely Planet to get started and then we can have a further chat to get down to the details.

Vancouver is a great destination in itself but it is also a gateway to everything that Western North America has to offer. Vancouver Island is a short ferry ride away and, while a lot farther, the Rocky Mountains are within driving distance and, also, the warm lake waters and beaches of the Okanagan Valley. Lastly, or those that are more winter driven, let’s not forget that it’s not that far to some of the world’s best skiing: Grouse Mountain, Cypress, and Whistler.

Le Meridien Etoile Paris-A perfect weekend away

http://youtu.be/b_C-IRt1J6k

For my anniversary, my husband and I wanted to spend a weekend away, not far from home.   So, we chose Paris and along came Le Meridien Etoile.  We travelled by Eurostar from St Pancras to Gare du Nord, then on the metro from Gare du Nord to Porte Maillot.  The journey is very smooth, relax and took approx 3 hrs from London to the hotel.

The famous Arc de Triomphe is only 15 mins walk from the hotel which is also the start of of the famous shopping road Champs Elysees.  It was the perfect choice, upon hotel check-in we were very lucky to be upgraded to an executive room.  The room has been newly refurbished to very high standard, very modern with flat TV  plasma screen,  beautiful lightings and nice bathroom fittings with comfortable beds.

Breakfast the next morning was just outstanding, it finishes at 10 am so go early.  The staffs were indeed very nice, very polite and smiling.  The hotel also has a live jazz band every evening except on Sundays and the Jazz club is popular .  So all in all, a very pleasant break away at Le Meridien Etoile Paris.

Shopping in Canada

I’ve just mentioned that I was going to write about Canada and my wife’s comment was, “Mooses, pumpkin pie and Mounties”…charming!  While these are familiar bits of Canada and its history, there is so much more to consider and see.  From the French history and mystique of Quebec,  to the mountains and forests of British Columbia, there is something to offer all travellers.

Getting to Canada is easy as there are several flights into Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary, as well as daily services into other locations such as Edmonton and Halifax.  Onward arrangements to locations such as Niagara Falls can be made via train, coach or car hire but onward flights may be an option for cities such as Victoria on Vancouver Island.
There are so many reasons to go to Canada but a very popular one is shopping as Toronto and Montreal are but a few hours away and offer some of the world’s best shops, along with a few that are classicly Canadian; where else can you get a Hudson’s Bay blanket or Montreal corned beef?

If you’re after a longer trip then Vancouver’s Robson Street , Gastown and the Granville Street market may appeal but I think you’ll want to make it a bit more than a weekend…it’s an 11 hour flight.  As I’ve mentioned markets (I love them), I’d have to say that my favourite is Lawrence Street Market in Toronto;  not huge but really great food to go and amazing fish and meat venders.

If you’d like more information or advice on a shopping trip to Canada, please feel free to contact me at any time.

It’s Vegas, baby!

A great place to start a road trip

Here we are on the West Coast trip but where do we start?  At the beginning, of course.  Having just arrived in Vegas by air, you’ll need to get to your hotel and those in the know will agree that the best way is just to get a taxi.

If you want to show up in style, I can arrange a private car or limo at an extra charge but I never include the transfers in Vegas.  If you’re coming in by road from Los Angeles, try to time it so you’re hitting Vegas at sundown and into the twilight. If you plan to drive around or go on a road trip, be sure that your car is good condition. Those who need to replace their old vehicles may consider purchasing used cars in glendale.

As you get closer to the city, every little hill in the road will provide you a closer and brighter view and a thrill that I can’t really describe…it has to be experienced.

Get checked in and then get out there

Having gotten yourself to the hotel, and checked in, it’s time to experience everything that Vegas is about…glitz and excess!  Many go to Vegas for the gambling but the city has changed itself in the last decade or so; this is now a place to take your family and relax or catch some world class entertainment.  The old Las Vegas is still there in spirit and all-night drinking, gambling at the best online casinos in usa and cavorting in ยูฟ่าสล็อต are the attractions for a good portion of visitors but the old images of gangsters and corruption are (at least visibly) a thing of the past. To get a chance of winning big prizes, you may try your luck at these online situs slot gacor games. You may also check out daftar mpo888 if you’re looking for exciting rewards.

There is more to Vegas than just ‘the strip’; if you want to get away from the high rollers and noise, there are some nice bars and restaurants in the suburbs where you’ll find the ‘locals’.  Most residents are relative newcomers and the city continues to grow;  I like the East end as it has a suburban feel to it and lacks the pretence of downtown.  My favourite casino is Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway (easy to get to by taxi or bus); here you can go elbow to elbow with the diehard bingo players (blue hair included) for just a few dollars, or while away the hours at the penny slot machines.  Sam’s, definitely, isn’t the Bellagio or Venetian but it does have an appeal and it won’t break the bank. If you prefer online casinos, you can also try your luck and ลุ้นรางวัลใหญ่กับ UFA.

The best shows anywhere

Entertainment in Vegas is big business and it is here that you will see the best of the best.  People fly from all over the world to watch a title fight at the MGM Grand or, on the other end of the spectrum, to see the likes of Celine Dion…you haven’t made it until you’ve played the strip!  The shows that are put on by the hotels are fantastical spectacles that cost them millions to produce and some are free…you’ll have to do some research .

There are few ‘Must Do’ things for your time in Vegas :

-See the Grand Canyon (pop me over an e-mail for info on how to do this)

-See the light show on Fremont Street (free)

-The fountains at the Bellagio are amazing

-Buffet, buffet and more buffet (you can get these for free, sometimes) but if you only try one, make it a champagne brunch on the weekend…usually in the range of USD35-40.

-Play golf if you’re a golfer or attend a sporting event, such as baseball

I could go on and on but don’t want to be long-winded so, if you do want more on Vegas, get in touch and we’ll have a chat.

Western fly drive

Many of my friends and clients have experienced the classic West Coast fly drive but most tend to overlook my absolute favourite San Diego. I always recommend taking as much time as possible to see as much as you can and, when possible, include Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. I’ll get to more about the individual locations on separate blogs but let’s just get the itinerary for now.

The glitz of Vegas is always worth a look for at least four nights and, also, to allow for a trip out to the Grand Canyon. Die hard gamblers will want to stretch this out a bit but there is always enough to see as not to move on right away. Exotic shows and bright lights are the normal attractions, but golfers will be spoilt for choice, as well.

San Francisco is the next stop, and you can get there either by road or by air…I’d suggest just getting there by plane and picking up your car on the other end as the 9 hour drive may be too much for some or, alternatively, stopping along the way but this is a wasted night. After about 4 nights in ‘Frisco’, it’s down the coast to Los Angeles and this time it is worth a stop in the Pismo Beach area just to enjoy the scenery.

Los Angeles has a love-hate relationship with tourists; it’s big and smoggy, but there’s a ton of stuff to do, as well. It’s important to consider exactly what appeals to you so a decision can be made as to the length of stay.If you want to explore you’ll need a week but if there are just a couple of points of interest then 3 days will be sufficient.

A short drive down I-5 brings you to San Diego and, arguably, one of the best climates in the world. It’s a busy city with a lot to see but, at the same time, San Diego invites you just to relax. I always recommend at least 4 days but would gladly stay for weeks. Your time constraints may limit you to a couple of days, but at least you’ll get a taste.

In between these major centres, there are other popular options for side trips or stays. The coastline itself has many towns and events to visit, and there are more out of the way choices such as Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and the giant redwoods in northern California. The more adventurous could consider travelling into Oregon and Washington to explore the Pacific Northwest, but you will need to allow more time.

There are numerous other considerations to be had; available time, school holidays when travelling as a family, budget and, ultimately, what you want to see. As I mentioned, I’ll put more detail into individual blogs but this will get you thinking about where to start planning.

If you’d like to discuss a fly drive (or any other holiday), or have these details e-mailed to you, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Just a few lines to say a great huge big THANK YOU for organising another wonderful holiday for us! The cruise was excellent. The whole experience was stress free which is a major factor for me! The taxis all turned up on time which was amazing. We also thought the hotel in Barcelona was excellent, so thank you again Tim. You really are a star.

I thought we'd just let you know what a wonderful time we all had aboard the Adventure of the Seas, and thank you for your part in the arrangements, we enjoyed every minute, no doubt probably our best cruise to date. Also I would say that disparaging remarks or criticism were totally unfounded, we gave all the staff, food, cabins, entertainment, weather and the ports of call, 10 out of 10, its a great ship, managed by a fine Master and very dedicated crew. We may have to give next year a miss to build up the bank balance, but we will come back to you for your expertise, as our Cruise Connoisseur.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our trip to Verona last weekend. This was a very emotive trip for my wife & I, as it was our first trip to Italy since my wife's cancer diagnosis 2 years ago. Italy is without a doubt our favourite place on the planet and we were not sure if she would see it again. Thanks to you, she has regained, what I call her Italian smile, it came across her face the minute we touched down. Money cannot pay for that smile! The hotel at Gatwick was literally a 2 minute bus ride from the airport, front row seats on the flight over and chauffeur driven limo to meet us at the airport was an amazing start to the weekend. When you said we were staying in a 3 star hotel, I was, if I'm honest, a little nervous, generally speaking, 3 star hotels in Italy means you are sleeping in a cow shed. Not at the Hotel Milano, what an amazing hotel, slap bang in the centre of Verona, with views of the arena, excellent breakfast, towels changed twice daily, good size bedrooms and very comfortable beds! The air con worked superbly, which was just as well with temperatures in the 30's every day. Thank you for making this trip memorable for both of us.

First of all thank you for helping our son & daughter to organise such a great surprise trip for us. The only cruise I've wanted to do and it certainly came up to expectations. It really was fantastic and made a wonderful golden wedding present with all the immediate family with us - a rare occasion! A really big thank you for the wonderful bouquet of roses which arrived in our cabin. I was really touched by such a kind thought, they were beautiful and very much appreciated.

There aren't many people I can say this to, but you've totally impressed my mother-in-law. Seriously, thank you for all you hard work in arranging the cruise on board Serenade of the Seas for my in-laws and four other guests. Not only were your clients located in in three corners of the UK, but you had to deal with very late booking alterations, various medical requirements, special dietary requirements and not to mention 6 very experienced cruisers. All arrangements were completed by you with professional calm and flourish and, due to your personal intervention and attention to detail, everything was perfect from beginning to end. The whole party, who have much cruising experience between them, were totally impressed and will undoubtedly be booking with you again.

Everything went like clockwork and we cannot thank you enough. The itinerary you gave us was perfect. If we had done Shamwari early on as our companions on the drives were doing then the impact / climax would just not have been the same. The President Protea was a perfect start for us - good swimming pool & very adequate 3 star. Lots to tell you about one day. Terrible drought there, but we just squeezed in before they tightened up. Thank you again so much.

Just back from a fantastic holiday. Everything went really well with your arrangements. The Centurion Palace was great and I would strongly recommend it. It is a great location, very comfortable & very attentive staff. Venice was a trifle hot but lovely all the same and now competing for our favourite Italian city. All went well with the ship, again thank you for picking it for us; a perfect choice. Staff were great, cabin very comfortable and what was so nice is that there was no forced seating. We could eat in a choice of restaurants and there was always a table for two if we wanted it. The food choices were outstanding. The itinerary was very interesting particularly Kotor in Montenegro. We easily got a train into Florence and were bold over by Barcelona. A big thank you from us both for organising this trip, and believe it or not, we both came back a few pounds lighter!

Not long back from our 3rd holiday of the year all booked by Jackie, Jackie is excellent at finding great hotels at fantastic prices. firstly we booked a holiday in Mexico at the Occidental Grand Excaret on the Riviera Maya. For the May bank holiday weekend we asked Jackie if she could find us something in the UK with a hot tub for a relaxing break, Jackie quickly replied with a few options and we ended up booking Conifer Lodges at Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway. The price through Jackie was cheaper than what we could of booked it ourselves. Lastly we have not been long back from Kardemeana in Kos, this one proved a bit more difficult to find as we'd been spoilt in Mexico, Jackie spent a lot of time finding us exactly what we asked for and yet again managed to find us a fantastic hotel at a brilliant price. I look forward to booking next years holiday's with Jackie as I know she'll exceed our expectations for what we want.

I have just come back from a fantastic week in Kos which Jackie booked at very short notice for my daughter and myself. I was a little nervous about travelling alone with my 7 year old for the first time as my husband was working and, to compound matters, I had an injured shoulder. Jackie arranged everything to make the holiday as easy for me as possible. The hotel was lovely and just what we wanted - we had a great break. Before contacting Jackie I had already wasted almost a full day trawling the internet and tying myself up in knots. Jackie did all the research, gave me loads of suggestions and had the whole holiday booked and organised in just a few hours. All I had to do was pack and turn up for the flight. Next time I'm not going to even think about searching online - I'll get straight in touch with Jackie and ask her to sort it out for me! Thanks Jackie! xx
