Bermuda Holidays

Go to heaven if you want, I’d rather stay in Bermuda” Mark Twain’s quote sums Bermuda up in a nutshell. It is the island of choice for casual merrymakers, and the playground of the rich and famous. Bermuda is actually comprised of 138 islands and islets, but for the sake of simplicity, Bermudans simply refer to it as “the island”. Quite a few miles off the east coast of North America, the biggest and main islands are concentrated around the hook-shaped land formation. Consider Bermuda holidays for unforgettable time of life.

The Gulf Stream has a moderating effect on the island, so the weather is mostly balmy and humid. Winters are temperature, but daytime temperatures can drop to around 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so bring something warm, just in case.

A special word of caution is needed though; the hurricane season runs from June to November, so monitor the weather conditions on the National Hurricane Centre’s website before you plan your trip.

Bermuda is the source of many a myth and legend, and I doubt any traveler will need an introduction to the stories surrounding the infamous Bermuda Triangle. One almost expects to see broken carcasses of ships and planes as you travel toward the island. It is these stories of the unexplained that adds to the appeal of the region.

Even if the myths are greatly exaggerated, and your plane will not be swallowed up by the great unknown, Bermuda’s history was born out of a shipwreck. An English ship ran ashore here in 1609 on their way to Virginia, and eventually turned the island in a safe haven and permanent settlement as an English colony.

The concept of traveling to Bermuda to escape the nippy American winter is not a new one. In fact, people have been doing it since the Victorian times. A tradition of thriving tourism keeps the island going, even if they are no longer solely dependent on it. With such a booming tourist industry, great efforts have been made to cater to everyone’s culinary tastes, from British pub fare to West Indian cuisine.

However, if you are feeling adventurous, the local dishes are highly recommended, if just slightly unusual. Local food includes shark hash (think fish cakes) bay grape jelly and something called Hopping John; a simple rich and black-eyed peas mish-mosh.

Bermuda Holidays - Bermuda pink sand beach

Part of Bermuda’s appeal lies in its pink sandy beaches and massive coral reefs that ensnared ships, but this is only scratching the surface.

Thanks to its colonial past, the island has a surprising number of historic sites, dainty cottages a due to its strategic position on the trade routes of old, more forts per square mile than you can shake a stick at. To catch your breath, escape to the hidden coves and lagoons for peace and tranquility. Jobson’s Cove is an excellent choice.

Bermuda Holidays - Bermuda activities

Those who prefer something a bit more active, you can spend days exploring the surrounding reefs, and there is a variety of water based sports that will keep you thoroughly entertained. Hamilton is the only city in Bermuda, and the British influence here can be seen at large.

This is not to say that there are no other towns to explore, as Pembroke Parish is delightful, but Hamilton is the busiest and liveliest.  A walk down the old railway from Pembroke just outside of Hamilton towards George Town is also worth a special mention. Speaking of walking, tourists are not permitted to drive in Bermuda. You are not allowed to hire any vehicle with the exception of 50cc scooters, so you will have to rely on your own two feet, busses, ferries and taxis.

Bermuda Holidays – Accommodation

Accommodation is Bermuda can be quite expensive if you aren’t careful, but you do have some excellent options available to you. Romantic souls will love the local inns with their intimate atmosphere, while history buffs might prefer to stay in the model pink cottages so unique to this part of the world.

These houses are comfy and unpretentious with beautiful coral stone pathways. If you feel like splurging, there are of course beachfront resort and hotel options to pick and choose from. Many of these will cater to your needs on a fully inclusive basis.

Again, Bermuda can be expensive due to the significant import tax, even if the exchange rate to the USD stays the same. 1 Bermudian Dollar is directly equal to 1 US Dollar, and USD are widely accepted. Violent crimes can be problem in Bermuda, especially in the slums. This should not deter you, but make you aware.

Avoid alleyways after dark and don’t accept candy from strangers; basically just don’t do anything you won’t do in your own country.

Our Bermuda Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.

Anguilla Holidays

Nestled in the Eastern Caribbean among the northern islands in the Leeward chain, Anguilla lies less than ten miles from St. Martin. Puerto Rico is its main gateway at 200 miles away. The fact that Anguilla is just off the beaten tourist tract ensures that it offers you an exclusive an authentic island getaway.

At only 16 miles long and 3 miles wide with one main road that runs through the center, this flat, low lying piece of land comprised mostly of coral and limestone can easily be traversed in less than half an hour.

The landscape is sparse with salt ponds and few trees, but it is the shimmering white sandy beaches and clear ocean that caused Anguilla to be the object of envy of neighboring islands. The 33 beaches are easily accessible and thanks to being off the beaten track, uncrowded.

Climate

anguilla holidays Landscape weather

The climate is typically tropical with wet and dry seasons. Temperatures fluctuate only a little between the seasonal changes, with daily averages of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

September is the wettest month of the year, and the island is also running the risk of being exposed to hurricanes between August and October. The last serious damage to the island was dealt by Hurricane Luis in 1995, but it is best to keep your eye out for any hurricane predictions before your travels.

Before Anguilla became a thriving plantation economy, it was inhabited by tribes for millennia. One tribe, the Arawaks, believed that the sun and moon resided in two caverns from which mankind also awakened. These two caves remain to this day. As the chase to discover the new world got into full swing, Anguilla was eventually colonized by the British in the 1600’s, and the now enslaved inhabitants toiled over plantations of corn and tobacco.

By the 1800’s farming became unfavourable as the soil corroded and rainfall was unpredictable. As devastating the effect this had on the economy, this was also what propelled the Aguillans forward towards independence.  Even if Anguilla was declared a statehood along with St Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla made their feelings clear about this and rose up in revolt. In modern day Anguilla, their independence is proudly celebrated with parades, festivals and traditional boat races.

Culture

As you would almost come to expect, the cuisine is a mix of its rich cultural heritage, with distinct elements of Spanish, French, African and English dishes. Food fundis find the Caribbean delightful. Generally speaking, the food is substantial in hearty portions, intended to carry you throughout the day, but to cater to international guests, a selection of lighter meals are also available.

Because of their history is one of survival and strength, locals are sincerely happy to share the island and its stories with you. There is always something else to discover here, whether it is an interesting piece of the past or a beguiling cove that you can claim all to yourself for the next few hours. Guided tours really are optional here, since the island is so exploration-friendly. A helpful local will always nearby to ask for directions if you get lost, but at only 16 miles of island, you’d be hard pressed to let that happen.

Don’t be fooled by Sandy Ground’s sleepy daytime appearance. At night, this village wakes up and turns into the entertainment capital with a decent selection of beach bars and laid back restaurants. Crocus Hills plays host to a series of architectural structures for ages past, while Shoal Bay is the beach to be at with its colourful beach bars and even more vibrant coral reefs. And how can one forget about the aforementioned Amerindian Ceremonial site, where the universe and man were born. It makes for a very interesting archaeological trip, where a likeness of Jocahu, the deity of old, stands guard.

Activities

Anguilla Holidays Cap Juluca

If you want to relax in style at a five star holiday resort, Anguilla has a few to choose from, along with private villas for those who are not budget conscientious. It also has its fair share of small and very affordable inns, guest houses and apartments for rent if you are looking for something less extravagant.

You can change your US Dollars for the East Caribbean one at an exchange rate of roughly EC 2.60 to USD 1. US Dollars are accepted in the main parts of the island, but it is always a good idea to exchange at least a little bit in case of emergency. Crime here is relatively low, with the exception of petty pick pockets, but there are reports of increased youth gang activity. This is mostly limited to local villages and there are no known incidents involving tourists, but be aware of possibly dangerous situations in any case. Overall, you should not encounter any trouble. This little island offers a private and tranquil getaway that is usually reserved to but a select view. It is affordable, and the value and quality of accommodation is practically unmatched this side of the Caribbean.

The influence of many races brings to the pot many recipes while the intermingling of the races contributes to tweaks that come up with mesmerizing delicacies found only in Singapore. The aromas around Singapore cannot allow any tourist on holiday in Singapore to ignore the delicacies. To complement the food experience, trying a koktail di Singapura is a must, as it perfectly reflects the city’s unique fusion of cultures in a refreshing sip.

This article does not cover half of the attractions found in this Far East touristic gem. A holiday to Singapore is the best way to discover the wealth of delights in this country.

Malaysia

The Geographical representation of Malaysia would easily lead to one declaring the existence of two countries where only one exists. In between the Country of Malaysia spans the South China sea that separates the Southern Malay peninsula to the north and the southern segment which is made up of the northern part of the island Borneo. The fascinating attractions found in this country placed in the south east of Asia are enough to make anyone quickly pack a bag for the holiday of a lifetime in Malaysia.

Malaysian people are made up of a mixture of different races. The ethnic Malays make up the biggest chunk followed by the Chinese, the Indians and many other smaller races. This will explain the colourful collage of culture in the country. Due to the many races occupying the country, the country also has many religions with most races professing a particular religion. Islam is the official religion in the country and Malay is the main language spoken.

Sightseeing and activities

Malaysia Jungle

Most of the country is covered in Jungle and many parks are spread over the country. Trekking through the foliage is a major activity for tourists in Malaysia; this activity should be done in the company of a guide to avoid getting lost or other unseen hazards.

Wildlife is plenty in the jungles and for example in the state of Sarawak, Orang-utans and hornbills rule the trees. Towards the northeast corner of the island of Borneo is Sabah, also known as the land below the wind. The area has a terrain that offers dazzling beauty.

Apart from adventures through the jungle, tourists have a chance of experiencing some of the most beautiful oceanscapes in the world. The coasts of Malaysia are ringed with flawless beaches of rolling sand. A memorable destination for tourists with a thing for beaches is the island of Penang.

Turtle Beach

Here the beaches offer many activities for tourists other than scenic beauty; scuba diving in the clear warm waters of Penang presents quality viewing of life beneath the sea.

Swimming, hiking across the beaches, horse riding and many other activities fill the days of tourists with immeasurable pleasure.

Due to the influence of many races, Malaysia prides itself with multiple varieties of cuisine. For example there is the ‘Nonya’ delicacy which has its roots in the Malay and Chinese cultures.

Most other varieties of food are also found and even western delicacies are available; cooked to scintillating perfection. The meals served are not the same everywhere, for example Sarawak has a variety of local dishes that will not be found in the Peninsular Malaysia. Also care should be taken as the names can be confusing and guidance from a knowledgeable person might be necessary to benefit from the best of Malaysian cooking.

Some of the major attractions in Malaysia are to be found in the cities. For example Kuala Lumpur is famous for its towering buildings. The Petronas Towers, once famed to be the tallest, are found in this modern town. Despite its name’s meaning of ‘muddy confluence’, the city offers high standards for tourists in terms of accommodation and facilities. Night life in the city is pretty intense too.

This is but a taste the many goodies that are in store for anyone planning to spend some holiday time in Malaysia.

Hong Kong Holidays

Seeing the diverse influences on its culture from many different places around the world, Hong Kong justifies the tag of ‘Asia’s World City’. The place was under British rule until recently and so has glaring English influence alongside its own Cantonese Chinese heritage. People from all over the world have also made this corner of Asia home, each bringing with them a piece of unique culture to add to this melting pot. Settlers are from Australia, Japan, Europe and even North America.

Hong Kong Holidays - Hong Kong islands

Getting to the Victoria Peak and gazing at the dreamy panoramas before you is a must for every visitor on holiday to Hong Kong. Apart from the eye-watering views, you will be treated to excellent food in the diner there as well as a dose of local culture as you peruse the artefacts of the museum there.

But walking around this majestic tower and seeing the island from a variety of angles is why you need to go there. Wandering about the streets of this city is a great way of observing how the locals live and interacting with them. It is also a handy way of accessing some interesting sites that point to the locale’s rich heritage.

The Ping Shan Heritage Trail leads to a host of important ancient sites including the village of Tsang Tai Uk and temples such as Che Kung and Man Mo. Other interesting things you will encounter are the stilt houses in Tai O and the Tien Tan Buddha statue. For more on Hong Kong’s heritage feel free to visit the city’s many museums.

The Hong Kong Museum of History in Kowloon furnishes tourists with creative displays that evoke memories of colonial times while the Hong Kong Museum of Art is filled with beautiful Chinese paintings and contemporary pieces by Hong Kong’s local artists.

With images of skyscrapers and traffic filling the minds of most when this city is mentioned, it comes as a shock to many visitors when they discover Hong Kong’s green resplendent countryside. The island boasts a number of protected areas as well where many plant species are allowed to thrive.

The Hong Kong Wetland Park is one of these areas and a stroll along its designated walks is an experience any nature lover won’t want to miss. The waters encircling Lantau Island are home to hundreds of Chinese White Dolphins.

If you will be taking your Hong Kong holiday with the kids then you need to pencil in a visit to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Hong Kong Holidays – Events

Hong Kong Holidays - Hong kong Harbour Lights

Visiting Hong Kong between February and April is a great idea as you will be able to take part in a host of cultural events including the month-long Hong Kong Arts Festival that brings together established international names for a series of scintillating performances.

Lovers of rugby will want to time their holiday to coincide with the Hong Kong leg of the IRB Sevens Series which also takes place around April. It is a great way to combine the love of sports with a new cultural experience and one heck of a party.

China Holidays

China is currently the rave for the massive economic strides it has made in the recent past. This despite of, or due to, the fact that it has the highest population in the whole world. Apart from this, China is known for its rich history that tells of great dynasties and civilizations. The dynasties especially left a lot of structural heritage that leaves the rest of the world in awe. Consider China holidays for unforgettable time of life.

It is hard to describe how the Chinese of yore managed to come up with such intricate, sturdy designs. Neither can today’s engineers comprehend the methodology used to build the structural artefacts. Anyone curious about this rich architectural heritage and in some spell binding views should plan for a holiday in China.

China Holidays – Sightseeing and activities

China Holidays - Great Wall of china

The Chinese people are a great people that seem to be always happy to see foreigners in their country. A smile will frequently accompany their mouthing of accurate instructions to a stranded tourist.

This leads to making tourists feel very appreciated and much at home. With this relaxed aura, one can set off to explore the vast country.

If one does not know where to begin, then it’s advisable to start with the most famous attraction, The Great China wall. The wall was built to discourage the northern warring communities from invading China. It is hard to swallow the fact that the hand of man was responsible for building this amazing structure that snakes over many miles of mountain land.

Another testimony of the turbulent times in China’s past is the Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors and their horses. At the front of the tomb of the first emperor of the unified China Qin Shi Huang Di, a massive excavation revealed hundreds of sculptured soldiers and horses all seemingly alert and guarding the tomb. The large scale of art in this burial spot is astounding.

China Holidays - China Terracotta pmorgan

The former rulers of China were not very social with the common man as is testified by the Forbidden City. Found in Beijing, this is a collection of numerous structures that housed emperors and their families.

The housing was so immaculate that the emperors did not want to share the magnificence with the commoners. Within the city, was the Emperors Palace, today this is the Palace Museum and visitors can venture in to view the many treasures.

A building that works to embarrass accomplished architects today is the Temple of Heaven in China. Some may be tempted to explain that the mystery is revealed in the name and that the temple is really from heaven.

The temple’s design is from out of this world and the symmetry does not seem to have been accomplished by the hand of man, yet the building stands. Today this is one of the most photographed buildings in the world.

China Holidays - China Shanghai Yuyan

Another evidence of how much ancient China appreciated beauty and went to all lengths to achieve it is evident in the Yu Yuan gardens. The gardens that date back to the Ming dynasty are a perfect blend of man’s building ability and natures perfect beauty; the flowers and trees beautify the ponds and pavilions that once comforted the troubled emperors.

A point that every visitor to China should take in and appreciate is the fact that, the sites that even foreigners are able to enjoy today were once royalty and the common people who lived then were not allowed to access them.

There are many, many attractions in China not mentioned here. This is but a sneak preview to the boundless wonders of this country. After reading it, one should make it a priority to schedule a holiday to China and see the rest.

Our China Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.

Canada Holidays

Canada is one massive country. Actually it is the second largest, the largest is Russia. Despite boasting so much acreage, the country is also blessed with fascinating landscape. Actually, Canada is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The beautiful terrain and a rich heritage are the major attractions for tourists who visit Canada for holiday. Consider Canada holidays for unforgettable time of life.

Nestled in the heart of Ontario, the scenic beauty of Rice Lake offers a unique opportunity for those seeking a tranquil retreat. Among the various properties available, the charming rice lake cottages for sale stand out as prime investments for both personal enjoyment and potential rental income. These cottages provide a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern amenities, making them ideal for family vacations or weekend getaways. With the lake’s pristine waters and abundant recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking, owning a cottage here promises a lifestyle of relaxation and adventure. Moreover, the strong real estate market in the area ensures that purchasing a cottage on Rice Lake is not only a delightful lifestyle choice but also a sound financial decision.

If you invested in a parcel of land that you plan to sell, be sure to get in touch with reputable land buyers. You can sell California land with our expert services, providing fair offers and a seamless process to help you achieve your goals.

Canada Holidays – Sightseeing and activities

Visitors on holiday to Canada will be treated to many marvels of nature, to begin with are the fascinating Niagara Falls: These are actually 3 falls stemming from the river Niagara. These are the Horse shoe falls, the American falls and the Bridal Veil falls.

The Niagara Falls is a great attraction for romantic couples as romance envelopes these enchanting falling waters. From the Niagara attraction, holidaymakers in Canada should visit the sharp pointed peaks and the deep gorges of the Canadian Rockies. Hidden within this chain of mountains are some beautiful valleys that offer breathtaking views.

The Lake Louise is one of these valleys. It is must visit destination for people who go to Canada for holiday destination. The area has diverse attractions. Tourists can come here to sightsee, ski, hike and enjoy other numerous recreational activities. The area has great scenery dotted with glaciers, snow capped peaks and awesome waterfalls. In the midst is the Lake Louise itself; a turquoise lake that is fed from an ancient glacier.

For tourists interested in wildlife, Churchill, Manitoba is a great place to catch a glimpse of Polar bears especially late October and early November when the Polar bears gather and cross the frozen Hudson Bay. In Churchill one is also able to sight some whales; one can even get lucky and see the pure white Beluga whales. Other kinds of whales can be seen in other areas for example in Tadoussac, Québec; here it is possible to see the rare blue whale! Bird enthusiasts also appreciate Canada for the numerous bird species it hosts. This could be attributed to the rich vegetation that spreads over the country.

Another major tourist attraction unique to Canada is the spectacular ‘Aurora Borealis’, commonly referred to as the Northern lights. This magical display that gracefully lights the Canadian sky by night is responsible for making Canada a major holiday destination.

Tourists will want to also tour the famous cities of Canada. Top most is Ottawa Ontario, Other than being the capital of Canada; the city boasts some interesting parks and museums. Other towns are Vancouver and Victoria. These two cities are among the prettiest and cleanest cities in the world. Here tourists have the best of activities offered, from skiing, whale watching to camping sites. The cities have great shopping outlets too.

As in every recreation activity, food is very important. Maybe due to its mixed history, apart from some parts such as the Western and Eastern fringes, Canada does not really have much in its own unique specialities. The food is really good though and one will find foods from all over the world. A common site is the Chinese-Canadian outlets that serve plates to be envied by the natives of Jiangsu. Due to a strong Jewish population, Montreal boasts some delicious Central and Eastern European Jewish delicacies. French-Canadian fare though is the most prevalent across the country.

The mentioned attractions are just a scratch on the surface of the many places tourists on holiday in Canada can visit. Our Canada Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.

I thought we'd just let you know what a wonderful time we all had aboard the Adventure of the Seas, and thank you for your part in the arrangements, we enjoyed every minute, no doubt probably our best cruise to date. Also I would say that disparaging remarks or criticism were totally unfounded, we gave all the staff, food, cabins, entertainment, weather and the ports of call, 10 out of 10, its a great ship, managed by a fine Master and very dedicated crew. We may have to give next year a miss to build up the bank balance, but we will come back to you for your expertise, as our Cruise Connoisseur.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our trip to Verona last weekend. This was a very emotive trip for my wife & I, as it was our first trip to Italy since my wife's cancer diagnosis 2 years ago. Italy is without a doubt our favourite place on the planet and we were not sure if she would see it again. Thanks to you, she has regained, what I call her Italian smile, it came across her face the minute we touched down. Money cannot pay for that smile! The hotel at Gatwick was literally a 2 minute bus ride from the airport, front row seats on the flight over and chauffeur driven limo to meet us at the airport was an amazing start to the weekend. When you said we were staying in a 3 star hotel, I was, if I'm honest, a little nervous, generally speaking, 3 star hotels in Italy means you are sleeping in a cow shed. Not at the Hotel Milano, what an amazing hotel, slap bang in the centre of Verona, with views of the arena, excellent breakfast, towels changed twice daily, good size bedrooms and very comfortable beds! The air con worked superbly, which was just as well with temperatures in the 30's every day. Thank you for making this trip memorable for both of us.

Not only were your clients located in in three corners of the UK, but you had to deal with very late booking alterations, various medical requirements, special dietary requirements and not to mention 6 very experienced cruisers. All arrangements were completed by you with professional calm and flourish and, due to your personal intervention and attention to detail, everything was perfect from beginning to end. All went well with the ship, again thank you for picking it for us; a perfect choice. Staff were great, cabin very comfortable and what was so nice is that there was no forced seating. We could eat in a choice of restaurants and there was always a table for two if we wanted it. The food choices were outstanding. The itinerary was very interesting particularly Kotor in Montenegro. Not long back from our 3rd holiday of the year all booked by Jackie, Jackie is excellent at finding great hotels at fantastic prices. firstly we booked a holiday in Mexico at the Occidental Grand Excaret on the Riviera Maya. For the May bank holiday weekend we asked Jackie if she could find us something in the UK with a hot tub for a relaxing break, Jackie quickly replied with a few options and we ended up booking Conifer Lodges at Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway. The price through Jackie was cheaper than what we could of booked it ourselves. Lastly we have not been long back from Kardemeana in Kos, this one proved a bit more difficult to find as we'd been spoilt in Mexico, Jackie spent a lot of time finding us exactly what we asked for and yet again managed to find us a fantastic hotel at a brilliant price. I look forward to booking next years holiday's with Jackie as I know she'll exceed our expectations for what we want.
