The St Regis Mauritius is set on the beautiful Le Morne beach in the South West of the Island. Although the hotel only opened in October 2012 the opulent Colonial Style architecture makes the hotel feel like it has been part of Mauritius’ heritage for may years.

The hotel prides itself on excellent service and each of the delightful rooms has beautiful sea views and access to personal Butler service. All rooms have fabulous bathrooms with sensuous egg shaped baths, I made the most of this and arranged for Hugo my butler to draw a luxurious perfumed bath which was very relaxing after a hard afternoon sunbathing.

The St Regis offers 6 restaurants and their Signature dining is at ‘Simply Indian’ where the menus are supervised by the award winning chef Atul Kutchar. We dined in the Floating Market which offers a fusion of Pan Asian cuisine, and it was here that I first tasted Wagyu Beef which certainly delighted my taste buds.

For those that wish to relax and chill, you can enjoy sunrise yoga on the lawn with the sound of the sea to relax you or take advantage of the 2000 sqm spa, where I experienced my best ever back massage.

If you are more energetic then the hotel also has a great Water sports Centre which is a centre of excellence for Kite surfing on the Island. They also offer a PADI Dive Centre and complimentary pedal and sail boats.

Le Home has been a favourite with British holidaymakers for many years, providing a great value for money option for couples in particular. All 38 apartments are set within spacious and immaculately kept gardens in a peaceful location, yet just a short walk from the fabulous beach and the amenities of Calvi.

The English speaking owners, Marie-Laure and Christophe, are always on hand to help and it is clear to see how passionate they are about their properties and gardens. With skilfully landscaped grounds as well as an abundance of flowers, plants and trees, evidently much care and attention has been put into the properties making them a real little oasis in the middle of town.

The apartments provide a real home-from-home; each is comfortably furnished and individually styled with some lovely touches and a great deal of care. They all have air-conditioning as well as views over the gardens towards one of the swimming pools from a balcony or terrace – the perfect retreat for the inevitable Corsican apéritif or one of those long lunches. The kitchenettes are functionally equipped with a hob and microwave, however, there are numerous bars, restaurants and shops within a 10-minute walk. For an evening out, try the Quai Landry, the promenade overlooking Calvi marina, which is a fantastic location for a relaxing drink, watching the sun set and enjoying a spot of people watching.

Holidays in Muscat

This is Oman’s capital and has been in existence since the 1st century. Throughout the ages the city has managed to remain relevant and today boasts modern buildings and infrastructure that rivals that of other leading cities. Located as it is on the edge of the Arabian Sea and having deep waters close to its coast, it has a pretty natural harbour. Its coastline is home to a rich variety of reef colonies and plenty of marine life but it also has marvellous beaches for tourists to lounge on.

There are areas that are mountainous, making for a well rounded experience of nature for those on holiday to Muscat. This city is also known for having a number of beautifully designed mosques. Shoppers will be delighted to note that there are an increasing number of shopping malls and history buffs will be happy to tour the many museums in Muscat.

Sightseeing and activities

Muscat is truly an amazing city and visitors are astounded by the wealth of attractions in this Middle Eastern gem. The natural beauty here manifests itself in the form of jaw-dropping wadis and the one that stands out the most is the Wadi Shab with its steep sides, caves and tranquil green pools.

There are also some majestic mountains in this land and at the foot of the Hajar Mountains you will find the incredible Nakhal Fort. Besides its beautiful, grand structure there are many palm trees planted around it that give it a luxurious air.

Speaking of grand structures, you need to take time to go see the Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace. This elegant structure is where the Sultan, the country’s leader works from and unlike the White House, you will not be allowed to take a tour inside. But no one will stop you from taking pictures of the building’s magnificent exterior. The Al Jalali and Al Mirani Forts were formerly prisons used by the Portuguese when they occupied the place in the 16th century.

Their shape and design is something special, sitting as they do in the rocky facade of mountains. Unfortunately you will not be allowed in there as well, viewing is limited to the exterior. You can round up your sightseeing with a stroll along the Corniche Area. You will be treated to amazing views of the city from here as well as tasty refreshments from the eateries there.

The city also has a number of museums which will be of interest to not only history enthusiasts. Here they will get to learn more about Omani history. Some of the museums worth paying a visit to are the Bait az-Zubair Museum, the Children’s Museum and the Natural History Museum.

There are plenty of outdoor activities available to those on holiday to Muscat. If the word vertigo doesn’t exist in your dictionary, you can take on the mountains in the vicinity of this city.
