Val Thorens

Val Thorens

Val Thorens Ski Resort is located in the Tarentaise Valley of Savoie in the French Alpes. It is the highest ski resort in Europe and one of the largest as it forms part of the Three Valleés.

Val Thorens used to be a small mountain village until the 1960’s.  It was then renovated and restructured to become a ski resort.  The resort has a large volume and density of snow because of the 2300-metre altitude.  This creates a perfect skiing season for the resort and it stays open from middle November to early May.  The slopes face in a northern direction, enhancing the sustainability of the snow.  The resort, however, faces south so tourists can enjoy sitting outside in the sun after skiing.

Skiing in Val Thorens

Skiing is with no doubt the main attraction in Val Thorens.  The resort forms part of the Three Valleys, along with the Glacier de Péclet and La Vanoise.
