China Holidays – Sightseeing and activities

China Holidays - Great Wall of china

The Chinese people are a great people that seem to be always happy to see foreigners in their country. A smile will frequently accompany their mouthing of accurate instructions to a stranded tourist.

This leads to making tourists feel very appreciated and much at home. With this relaxed aura, one can set off to explore the vast country.

If one does not know where to begin, then it’s advisable to start with the most famous attraction, The Great China wall. The wall was built to discourage the northern warring communities from invading China. It is hard to swallow the fact that the hand of man was responsible for building this amazing structure that snakes over many miles of mountain land.

Another testimony of the turbulent times in China’s past is the Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors and their horses. At the front of the tomb of the first emperor of the unified China Qin Shi Huang Di, a massive excavation revealed hundreds of sculptured soldiers and horses all seemingly alert and guarding the tomb. The large scale of art in this burial spot is astounding.

China Holidays - China Terracotta pmorgan

The former rulers of China were not very social with the common man as is testified by the Forbidden City. Found in Beijing, this is a collection of numerous structures that housed emperors and their families.

The housing was so immaculate that the emperors did not want to share the magnificence with the commoners. Within the city, was the Emperors Palace, today this is the Palace Museum and visitors can venture in to view the many treasures.

A building that works to embarrass accomplished architects today is the Temple of Heaven in China. Some may be tempted to explain that the mystery is revealed in the name and that the temple is really from heaven.

The temple’s design is from out of this world and the symmetry does not seem to have been accomplished by the hand of man, yet the building stands. Today this is one of the most photographed buildings in the world.

China Holidays - China Shanghai Yuyan

Another evidence of how much ancient China appreciated beauty and went to all lengths to achieve it is evident in the Yu Yuan gardens. The gardens that date back to the Ming dynasty are a perfect blend of man’s building ability and natures perfect beauty; the flowers and trees beautify the ponds and pavilions that once comforted the troubled emperors.

A point that every visitor to China should take in and appreciate is the fact that, the sites that even foreigners are able to enjoy today were once royalty and the common people who lived then were not allowed to access them.

There are many, many attractions in China not mentioned here. This is but a sneak preview to the boundless wonders of this country. After reading it, one should make it a priority to schedule a holiday to China and see the rest.

Our China Holidays will definitely etch themselves on your memory.
