Calgary

Calgary

Calgary is a modern and established city within Alberta in Canada.  It lies at the foot of the Canadian Rockies.  It is located 1 048 metres above sea level and was the first city to host the Winter Olympics in 1988.

The city was based on oil industry and fur trade in the late 1800’s and is now an established and world renowned city with a stable economy.

The altitude of Calgary provides deep snowfall for periods greater than 3 months each winter.  Given the location at the foot of the Rockies, it became an ideal location to build a ski resort.

Calgary is an ideal place to view the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis.  The height above sea level and northern location is sufficient to get a glimpse of the beautiful display of lights when the opportunity presents itself.

Skiing in Calgary

The Nakiska Mountain Resort is in the mountains closest to Calgary.  The resort was established to host the 1988 Winter Olympics.  The resort is in Kananaskis Country which is 45 minutes away from Calgary.

The slopes are ideal for snowboarding and the ski resort has specific boarder crosses.  Remember to pack your sled or rent a sled to and also take part in this fun activity.  Snowboarding and sledding keeps both children and adults entertained for hours on end.
