Aspen

Aspen is a town in Pitkin County in Colorado, United States.  In the summer you can enjoy beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains and valleys, but in the winter it transforms into a winter wonderland with snow covered slopes and valleys.  This provides for many hours of fun in the snow and various snow inspired activities.

Initially a mining camp for silver, the town experienced a depression era and decrease in economy and population in the late 1800’s.  In the middle of the 20^th century, the town was revamped and redeveloped into a very profitable ski destination.

The town of Aspen is 2 500 metres above sea level and in very close proximity to the four ski areas in the valley.  These are the Aspen Mountains, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and the Buttermilk Mountains.

Activities in Aspen

The ski season in Aspen opens in mid November and closes in middle April.  During this time, all the regular tourist attractions such as the museums and theatres are utilised for more than their primary functions.  They then become a hive of holiday activities and entertainment for every person
